We have updated Avernum 6 for the Macintosh to v1.0.3. To install the update, just download the demo and drag it into your Applications folder. This game does not work on MacOS Catalina (10.15.x) or later. Apple has decided to drop support for all 32 bit apps, so this game has completely stopped working on new Mac systems. We hope to someday remaster this game to be 64 bit and to work on the latest versions of the Mac OS, but it’s a large job and it will take a while to get to it. Other Macintosh IssuesĪ small number of people using Snow Leopard have found that, when they try to install the full game from the CD, the installer quits with the error "This installer requires admin privileges to run." This happens even when they have admin privileges. This problem has inflicted a large number of installers and, alas, some of Spiderweb Software's games are affected. One of them is to install the demo and request a new registration code here: There are two workarounds for this problem. Getting registration keys is always free. There is a second, more involved workaround. Insert the game CD and carry out the following steps:ġ. A window will open with the game art and an installer with the game icon. It will have a name like "Install Avernum 6 (Full)". Hold down the Control key and click on the installer. Open the file "installscript" If it asks you what program to open it with, choose TextEdit.ĥ. Scroll down until you find these lines:Ħ. This is an ugly situation and an ugly workaround, and we apologize for it. We wish this hasn't happened, we will do our best to make sure CDs printed in the future don't have the problem, and we desperately hope that Apple fixes this problem in an upcoming operating system update. The quartermaster doesn't acknowledge that 'I've done enough' to receive more supplies either. The installers are written in a format provided by Apple, and their refusing to run even on an account with proper privileges is a serious problem. Horyn told me to report to The Castle when I completed the mushroom blight test for her, but as I mentioned, I have no dialogue option for completing that quest with Meryhew. She gave me the Great Portal quest and then I completed the Aid Patrick's Tower quest. I finished the Aid Dharmon and Aid Gnass quests. There's no dialogue option with Meryhew despite the fact that the text says that I can still complete any quests I'd currently been working on prior to receiving the Great Portal quest. I've had trouble in at least two games when I've completed the third quest of the original three. Hi! I'm new to the forums, but I own all Spiderweb games except the first three games/old First Avernum Trilogy, Blades of Exile, and Avadon: The Black Fortress.Īm I supposed to Aid Dharmon, Aid Gnass, and Aid Patrick's Tower before reporting to Meryhew? I'm asking because, according to the walkthrough, I can receive the reward(s) for completing two out of three quests, and still complete the third after Meryhew gives me the Great Portal quest.
